Layla and I
My Story

As a child, I found solace in nature. I loved watching tadpoles swimming gracefully on top of the pond close to our house. I was amazed at the beauty of dragonflies, observing grasshoppers, birds, bees, and the little ants moving with purpose like a military squad. I remember climbing spruce trees with scratches all over my forearms, picking berries, making whistles with blades of grass, and laying on the ground gazing up to the sky feeling the vastness of the universe above me. Remember those days when you left the house to explore and wouldn’t come home unless you were hungry? Growing up in places like Iqaluit, NWT (formerly known as Frobisher Bay), Yellowknife, NWT, Thunder Bay, Ont., and Charlottetown, PEI, my family was always surrounded by forests. However, as life led us to a bigger city, I slowly lost touch with nature. School, work, and the demands of raising a family consumed my days. Like most people, I worked very hard in my career and tried to be the best version of myself for everyone. Through the years of neglecting myself, I began to feel unwell. I noticed my energy levels were dropping. As time went on, I developed a chronic illness. Despite years of searching for answers using modern medicine and doctors, I could not find relief. My life was turned upside down.

Frustrated and exhausted, I turned to plant medicine as a last resort. Even with the challenges posed by my health, I managed to complete the Master Herbalism program from Wildrose College. Through my journey in plant medicine, I began to find relief. With the best plant walker companion, Layla (pictured above), by my side, I spent years immersed in the lush greenery of the park and the river. It was so alive. It wasn’t just a sea of green, it was beaming with life. I would leave in the morning and get back home close to dinner time—just like I did when I was a child. My energy began to improve and the pain in my arms began to decrease so much that I forgot I even had pain. Best of all, I found a renewed sense of vitality and purpose. No longer consumed by thoughts of my health, I embraced nature once again. I found joy in the simple pleasures of life and rediscovered my connection to nature.

After graduating from the Wildrose College Master Herbalism program, I completed the Astro-Herbalism certification (Medical Astrology + Clinical Herbalism) with herbalist Sayja Popham and Canine Energetics Program with canine herbalist Rita Hogan. Currently, I am pursuing the Clinical Herbalist Certification with some of the best herbalists in the industry.

I am dedicated to fostering a deeper connection with plants by encouraging people to build their own "plant family". Cultivating a collection of plants can not only beautify your surroundings but also serve as allies in promoting health and well-being. I believe in the therapeutic power of natural environments to rejuvenate the mind, body, and spirit.
